Health Support

Health Initiative

The Thomas Park/Avondale (TPA) “Health Support” initiative relates to MAP Initiative 1, Linking Learning, Health and Prosperity. It relates specifically to Action 6, support and promote a healthy community initiative. Knowing where to find health resources aids in ownership of health.

How

The health initiative has been created through public meetings. Residents specifically have requested more information on health initiatives in the area.

Why

Having healthy people in the neighborhood of Thomas Park/Avondale can provide a sense of overall well-being and can inspire more people to seek out healthy habits and attitudes.

What

A healthy community takes initiative, resources, and individual action. Taking time to seek out preventative primary care before a problem arises is the best possible action one can take. Insurance coverage is probably the biggest barrier one might have to receive care. The list below provides resources for health insurance and how to get referrals for services.

Who

Having a healthy community relies on members seeing their primary care provider receive preventative care. This means that care is given to prevent an illness or disease process rather than waiting for it to occur. Also, it is important to receive screening tests to catch the disease early. In addition, getting vaccines to prevent sickness is another important step in keeping healthy. Listed below are primary care providers in the Muncie area. This list is not exhaustive.
